Measure Your Success With The Right Numbers

How to Measure Email Marketing Success with the Right Numbers

When it comes to running a business, it can feel like you're constantly drowning in numbers. Open rates, click-through rates, conversion rates—it’s easy to get lost in data.

But here’s the truth: most of these numbers don’t actually matter.

So, which ones do?

We’re Kennedy and Fifi, and that’s exactly what we’re tackling in this week’s episode of The Email Marketing Show!

Want to get more sales from your email marketing?

We put a little something together for you. It's really cool and it's FREE (yes, it's cool and free – we're nice like that). If you want to make more sales from your email marketing, you need more clicks on the things that you're selling!

That's why we're giving you 12 creative ways to help you get more clicks in every email you send. It's a FREE download, and it's called Click Tricks. You can grab it here

Stop Chasing Every Number

We all want to grow our business, but the key is to stop focusing on every single metric out there and instead, focus on the ones that will directly impact your revenue.

The first step? Knowing exactly how much money you want to make.

This is your North Star. If you don’t have a financial goal, you’re just blindly working, hoping things will work out. When you have a clear goal, you can reverse engineer everything else from that number.

Reverse Engineer Your Success

Let’s say you want to take home $10,000 a month.

Once you have this figure, you can break it down. If you’re selling a program for $1,000, you need to sell 10 of them each month. Let’s say you convert one in four leads on a sales call. This means you need to have 40 sales calls every month.

Once you have those 40 sales calls booked, that’s it—you’re done. You don’t need to hustle endlessly because you’ve hit your target.

How to Set Your Financial Goals

Many people struggle with setting financial goals.

It’s easy to say “I just want to make more,” but that’s not specific enough. You need to know exactly what your goal is. What kind of life do you want to live? How much do you need for that dream house, for retirement, or to support your family?

Once you figure that out, you can calculate how much you need to earn each month to reach that goal. Tools like ChatGPT can even help you work out a financial plan!

The Power of Knowing Your Number

Knowing your number isn’t just about hitting a financial goal.

It also gives you the freedom to stop working once you've hit it. You don’t have to constantly push for more. You can live your life and avoid burnout by working smarter, not harder.

Once you’ve hit your financial target, any additional work or projects become optional—something you can choose to do because it’s fun or fulfilling, not because you need to do it to survive.

Practical Tips for Reaching Your Goal

  1. Identify Your Core Offer: Look at your products or services and determine the price point. How many sales do you need to hit your financial goal?
  2. Break Down the Numbers: Calculate how many leads or calls you need to make those sales. Don’t overcomplicate it—focus only on what drives revenue.
  3. Stop When You Hit Your Goal: Once you’ve reached your target, stop. Give yourself permission to rest or focus on other things.

The key takeaway here is to focus on the numbers that directly impact your revenue.

Know your goal, reverse-engineer your success, and once you’ve hit your target, take a break. Don’t let numbers control your life — use them to create the life you want.

Subject line of the week

This week’s subject line is “I'm guilty of this”.

Not only does this subject line build up lots of natural intrigue, but also builds curiosity around what Fifi was ‘guilty' of – especially since she's positioned as an expert in her field.
